As well as managing his slate of projects at various stages of development
Matthieu de Braconier Exec produces Cinema Extreme, the premiere short film
scheme funded by the UK Film Council, Film4 and Skillset. The specificity of
Cinema Extreme's approach is that it offers a full training and development
process from script to screen and supports participants in the transition
from shorts to features. Productions have won over fifty awards between them
including the International Jury Prize in Sundance for Simon Ellis's SOFT
and the Oscar for Best Short Film for Andrea Arnold's WASP.
Before working at The Bureau Matthieu studied creative writing at the
Universite Europeenne d'Ecriture (1994-1995, Belgium), worked as a writer,
manager, coordinator and mediator on L'ARCHE DU DESTIN (an international
social and artistic project performed at the Cirque Royal Theatre in
Brussels & Sarajevo, May 1996) and went on to study Philosophy at the
Université Libre de Bruxelles (1996 - 2001, Belgium).
In October 2001 Matthieu joined The Bureau as PA to producer Bertrand Faivre
(RATCATCHER, THE WARRIOR, JULIA, FAREWELL). His duties included handling the
UK release and follow up of award winning THE WARRIOR as well as managing CINEMA EXTREME and running surprisingly successful EXTREME CINEMA EVENTS
(Curzon Soho, funded by the UK Film Council). As a Development Exec.
Matthieu's responsibilities soon grew to encompass development, script
editing, hunting & nurturing talent.
In 2004 Matthieu started producing from The Bureau. Most recently Matthieu
co-produced Rachid Bouchareb's LONDON RIVER that has won the Silver Bear for
Best Actor in Berlin and and has screened in Telluride,Toronto and the London Film Festival.
